When to Hire a Career Coach

“I’ve got to get a new job!”, “I just got riffed”, “I’m about to get blown up!!”

These are the kinds of things people say when it’s not going well.  That’s often when I get an email or a call.

As a former Head of HR, I’ve had a great deal of experience with individuals who feel restless or defeated in their careers. Though feelings of frustration or defeat can stem from a variety of factors, it’s never easy to know that someone is experiencing negativity within the workplace.

Throughout my career, I’ve helped individuals experiencing these feelings achieve positive outcomes that defy expectations. However, I do not recommend that people careen through their careers this way and/or allow themselves to enter “Crisis Mode”.

Operating in “Crisis Mode” can be scary, exhausting, and disruptive.

It can also lead to the acceptance of an ill-suited job offer for the simple fact of wanting to secure something quick. The misfit and dissatisfaction with that job will, in turn, often lead to another crisis exit, and so on, until people break the cycle by planning out their next moves. Rather than waiting for the point of frustration, I recommend avoiding “Crisis Mode” altogether by taking a more proactive approach with the utilization of a Career Coach.

A Career Coach provides unbiased feedback tailored to specific career goals. The utilization of a Career Coach allows for a fresh perspective, as well as access to a variety of techniques and methodologies to help individuals stay motivated, accountable, and on track. A really good Career Coach guides people with practical steps and feedback, and shows them exactly what to do. A Career Coach also helps them stay motivated, accountable and on-track.

Most people seek the help of a Career Coach when they’re exploring a career transition or are active in the job market. However, a Career Coach can help with internal career growth as well.

The benefits of professional career coaching are innumerable.

Professional career coaching can help you to find a new job, improve leadership skills, and create a healthier work-life balance. Investing in a career coach leads to success in the workplace but also translates into your personal life, giving you more satisfaction and fulfillment each day.
